Toka Stool
The Toka Chair by Civilisation was developed with the desire to fully express Japanese technology and craftsmanship using a custom locking system. The seat surface slides down through the graphic slot in the back of the chair to ‘lock’ the entire assembly together using nothing more than gravity. Two screws hold the leg structure together prior to the seat locking into place. This is one of our most original pieces, more sculptural object than simple furniture.

Disclaimers: Although we pride ourselves on Best Practice and strive for perfection in all our products, we unfortunately, are just human.
We incorporate the best Birch Plywood we can practically afford. Due to wars and Covid, supplies of the highest quality are either prohibitively expensive or just not available. The highest quality is called A/A or A/B grade. This means one perfect face of Plywood and a secondary flip face that is also pretty good quality with few blemishes and very few imperfections. The Plywood we use is currently graded as B/BB. This means one face has imperfections. Ours do too. The BB face has what is called ‘Butterfly Patches’ These can appear randomly and we only have them on the back face of all our products. But they are there and at times can be hard to spot. This is nature. We embrace these imperfections and we would appreciate it if you can too.
