Civilisation is a Sydney-based furniture design company founded by New Zealand designer Brent Grayburn.
Brent studied Architectural Design in Christchurch NZ before touring the world and landing in Sydney where he studied Visual Arts at Sydney College of the Arts.
A love for video installation art eventually steered Brent towards digital design work in film, advertising and animation, where he become an award-winning creative director in post-production and film before turning his hand to brand design.
A desire to return to the tactility of ‘making’ led to the creation of Civilisation where his extensive experience as a designer combined with a love of modelling and construction help motivate and develop the brand up to it’s launch in 2022.

All Civilisation products are manufactured with an uncompromising focus on longevity and permanence, a stark reflection on the cheap throw away disposability of contemporary furniture products widely available today.
Civilisation products are designed to have minimal impact on the environment.
We use sustainably sourced, plantation plywood, recycled paper based Linoleum, low VOC plant based stains and sustainable fabrics. The coloured linoleum range and the Birch Ply we incorporate into our products are certified by FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) and COC (Chain of Custody). We base our manufacturing decisions on sustainable best practice for our fragile environment.
